Revisiting Passion and Control: The Four of Pentacles
Recently, I’ve been drawn to do single card pulls as a way to connect more deeply with the energies around me. As I reflected on these cards, I realized that the messages might resonate beyond just my own experience and could be of value to others as well. I felt compelled to share these insights with you.
For this reading, I’m using the Rider-Waite-Smith deck. If you’re using the same deck, you’ll find that the imagery aligns with the reflections shared here. However, if you have other favorite decks, I encourage you to review them and see what additional insights or perspectives might come through for you.
This Week's Card: The Four of Pentacles
The Four of Pentacles brings our focus to the balance between control and security. The background of the card is busy with energy from the city scene, representing the hustle and bustle of everyday life and its associated responsibilities. The grey sky signals smog or pollution, which can obscure our vision and overwhelm us with daily demands. Are we feeling this way, perhaps doing what we can to simply keep it together?
The figure’s feet aren’t firmly planted on either pentacle, which may suggest a need to explore what stability truly feels like. Even though we might believe we’re on solid ground or can trust in our circumstances, the reality may be more precarious. There’s an emerging sense of faith, but the pentacle over the figure’s chest indicates that while we are not completely closed off to sharing our resources or receiving rewards, we might be restricting their natural flow due to a need for control.
The figure’s chin rests on their right hand, indicating contemplation about what to do next. Are we holding back from what could keep us emotionally balanced? The idea may be solid, but hesitation and risk management could be causing us to move too slowly. The figure’s red cloak, associated with the root chakra, symbolizes our foundational needs for stability, while the black shawl draped over their shoulders and lap suggests we might be limiting our passion and creativity for the sake of consistency and predictability.
Finally, the figure has crowned himself prematurely, sitting on a simple bench that serves as a makeshift throne. This imagery highlights that the figure has assumed a position of authority or control before the foundation is fully secure or supportive. This suggests that our current sense of stability or success might be built on an inadequate base. It serves as a reminder to assess whether we are placing ourselves in roles or situations that we are not fully prepared for, or if we are relying on temporary solutions that don’t provide lasting support. Are we limiting our potential and passion in favor of maintaining a semblance of safety and predictability?
Questions to Consider:
- What are we holding onto that might be limiting our growth?
- Are we prioritizing control over passion and creativity?
- How can we find a balance between security and openness?
I hope these reflections offer some insight and encourage you to explore these themes in your own life. Feel free to review your favorite decks and see what additional messages might come through for you. I look forward to hearing your thoughts and continuing our journey together.
Warm regards,
Courtnie
